why organic cotton?
Posted on April 11 2019
Is organic cotton really that great? Does it make a difference? Or is it just another hyped up hashtag on social media?
These are real and valid questions and there is a lot that can be said about the subject. From the very beginning it was clear that Teeshie would only use 100% organic cotton for its t-shirts due to a few very important social and ecological reasons.
Instead of sounding off with facts and figures about the matter, below are three simple reasons highlighting Why Organic Cotton:
Cotton Helps Your Body Breath
Cotton is a natural fibre that allows the skin to breath by allowing air to go through the fabric and reach the skin. This circulation helps the body release heat which can automatically reduce the sweating that can occur particularly in the underarms. Ever noticed how sweaty the underarms get with a synthetic top?
Mother Nature can Digest Cotton
Cotton is almost entirely made up of cellulose. Cellulose is one of the most natural compounds given to us by nature which means Mother Nature can absorb it through decomposition. It takes approximately 6 months for one cotton t-shirt to decompose. Synthetic materials can take anywhere from 20-200 years to decompose.
Organic Cotton is Kind
Organic cotton is grown without the use of harmful chemicals which is not only kind to the environment but also to the people. Every year hundreds of people become ill due to the constant exposure of chemicals that are used to treat textiles that later become our clothes.
When we choose organic cotton, we are choosing kindness for our body – the people – and our planet.
